HerStory: About entrepreneurship

Fempreneurships is that desire to self-responsible shape our work life in a way that allows us to shine our light: whether we have our own business, whether we are employed, whether we are taking care of our family, whether we do unpaid voluntary or community work …!

I was having lunch with some friends the other day, answering their curious questions about our work at Fempreneurships. Both of them were absolutely fascinated and found themselves stuck with challenges around stress, dissatisfaction, body symptoms, lack of energy etc. which so many of us face. Yet, both of them were asking me why I’d only offer support to those having their own business since they would so very much love to get support to shape their job in a more feminine way, in a way that would go in line with their bodies. But you are entrepreneurs even though you are employed – was my immediate reaction!

I realise that many of us associate entrepreneurship with having your own business. In our understanding, the idea of an “entrepreneur” refers to people that take initiative to shape their work life in a way that challenges them to experience and share their amazing innate skills and gifts. Entrepreneurship entails our creative self-realisation, our taking initiative, our willingness to take risks, realising our dreams . . .

Entrepreneurship is an attitude that we can assume towards our work life whether we have our own business, whether we are employed, whether we are taking care of our family, whether we do unpaid voluntary or community work, whether we are free lancing and also, when our work life is composed of a mix of some or all of those mentioned above. And there is a huge number of people that practices this latter option.

Most important of all though, in our understanding, entrepreneurship refers to what we mentioned earlier as discovering, exploring and sharing our innate skills and gifts. The kind of skills that make us happy and let us feel fulfilled when practicing them day in and day out and bring forth gifts that make your community a better place for yourself and all of us to live in. You do not need to save the world with some high achieving start up. Sharing what is in you is perfectly enough!

When assuming this attitude, what seemed to be a burden, a duty linked to so much stress and constraint. We can get curious on our skills, the one that lay within us, which we previously may not have seen as worthy enough to be considered relevant to our work life. We can get adventurous in trying out how to shape our work life in a way that we can bring forth these skills, experience them, apply them, share them. For, in our understanding, that, and only that, is what our work life is actually about: an adventurous journey to discover our skills, to use them to shape and create, to understand how to make them accessible to those in our community that desire them.

Are you ready to take shaping your work life in your own hands to develop them, to shine your light? What do you feel are your innate skills? The ones that make you happy and shine? And this is not referring to those skills other people you received your grades A and promotions for …  Are you ready to take shaping your work life in your own hands to develop them, to bring them out?
